Windows can be a weak point of your home for intruders to gain entry, it’s even estimated that 25% of all burglaries occur via entry through a window. It’s therefore important that you have the right window security in order to make it as hard as possible to gain access via your windows. When looking at improving your window security, the best place to look for initial improvements should be your window locks.

Different Types of Window Locks
A common question we get asked about window locks is: are they universal? There are number of different window lock types available, with the main difference depending on your window type. However within these window types, the locks do tend to be universal.
UPVC Windows
UPVC windows, or similar styles, are the most common types of windows found within the UK. They usually open outwards on a hinge, this means usual types of locks, similar to those used on doors, can be used on these windows.
Sash Windows
Sash windows are opened in an up/down slide motion and therefore require a different type of lock compared to UPVC windows. Often sash windows will just have a sash fastener, however these are not really considered as locks and can be easily replaced by a sash window lock. You can also add further security with a dual screw lock or a sash stop lock.
How To Fit Window Locks
The majority of window locks are easy to install and is usually a case of positioning the lock on your window and then fixing in place with screws. Before attempting to fit your window locks we highly recommend reading any instructions provided by the manufacturer as there can be slight differences between locks and this will ensure that your lock is installed in the best way possible.
