The Benefits Of Multipoint Locks

If you’re looking to upgrade your entry door security, the lock being used is a great place to start. In this article we look at Multipoint Locks and help you to understand why they are now the norm for certain door types as well looking at how they actually work.

What Are Multipoint Locks & How Do They Work?

As the name suggests, a multipoint lock is a type of door lock which contains multiple locking points controlled by a single locking mechanism. They have become increasingly popular both due to increase in use of UPVC and composite doors in which they can easily be installed along with extra security they give your door.

Multipoint locks usually consist of 3 locking points, one in line with key mechanism, one towards the top of the door and one towards the bottom. They are simple to use with a single key turn being used to open or close all the locking points.

Security Benefits

Harder To Break Into

There are a number of security benefits to having a multipoint lock, both direct and indirect. The main one being that it actually makes your door a lot harder to break into. This is due to the multiple locking points which helps against brute force attacks either trying to kick in the door or prise the door open. This means that the force being put against the door is spread out over 3 areas instead of a single area and if the door is being prised open that there’s less of an anchor point to prise against.

A Great Deterrent

This also leads to the fact that you have a multipoint lock being a deterrent. The majority of burglaries are actually opportunistic and will be carried out when a potential burglar sees a weakness in security. Therefore when a potential burglar sees that you have a multipoint lock they will realise that the door will be harder to break into and will therefore be less likely to even try.

Improved Insurance Premiums

As a multipoint lock is more secure and decreases the likelihood of you being burgled and therefore claiming against your insurance it can mean that you can see your insurance costs decreased when using multipoint locks. You should also look at other features such as certifications when you’re choosing a door lock, some of which may be asked for by your insurance provider.
