Types of Door Locks
Not sure what type of door lock you require? There are 3 main kinds of locks which you are likely to find on entry doors. The uses for these can be seen below:
UPVC/Multipoint Door Locks
If you have a UPVC or composite door then it’s highly likely that it’s going to use a multipoint lock, with these types of locks being fitted as standard. Because of this if you are replacing your lock on one of these doors you will therefore need to replace the lock with a like for like (in size) multipoint lock. These types of locks are typically unsuitable for solid wood doors.

Mortice Locks & Latches
Mortice locks are the traditional types of locks and can usually be found on wooden doors. As well as being used on entry doors they are also commonly used for internal doors, such as bathroom doors.

A rim lock is a type of lock which attaches to the surface of your door and are usually used as a nightlatch. They’re usually used as an additional security measure rather then the primary security measure.
