Product Information

The GU New Style Genuine Multipoint Gearbox - Lift Lever is a gearbox compatible exclusively with new style GU multipoint locks. It is not compatible with old style GU gearboxes due to differences in design, specifically at the top corner of the gearbox where new style versions feature a vertical groove to accommodate handle bolts, unlike the removed corner on old style versions.

This gearbox operates with a lift lever function. It integrates a latch and a deadbolt within a gearbox measuring 191mm in height (excluding fixing lugs) and a width equal to the selected backset plus 16mm. The latch has a height of 32mm, the deadbolt measures 35mm high, and the distance between the bottom of the latch and the top of the deadbolt is 54mm. The gearbox is secured to its faceplate using three screws, spaced 108mm from the top to the middle screw, and 92mm from the middle to the bottom screw.

Available backsets for the lift lever operation include 28mm, 35mm, 40mm, 45mm, and 55mm. The PZ centres measure 92mm, and the spindle size is a single 8mm. Latch reversal is possible by twisting the latch into the desired position.

Operation of the gearbox is as follows: to lock the door, lift the handle upwards to engage the locking points, then turn the key to lock the locking points and the main deadbolt if present. To unlock, turn the key to disengage the lock, then push the handle downwards to retract the latch and disengage the locking points.

Key Features

  • Compatible with new style GU multipoint locks only; incompatible with old style versions
  • Lift lever operation with integrated latch and deadbolt
  • Backset options: 28mm, 35mm, 40mm, 45mm, 55mm (select from drop-down)
  • PZ centres: 92mm
  • Single 8mm spindle
  • Gearbox dimensions: 191mm height (excluding fixing lugs), width equals backset + 16mm
  • Latch height: 32mm; deadbolt height: 35mm; 54mm between latch bottom and deadbolt top
  • Faceplate fixing with 3 screws spaced 108mm and 92mm apart
  • Latch reversal by twisting latch into position

Fitment & What to Check

  • Confirm the gearbox is for new style GU multipoint locks by verifying the vertical groove at the top of the gearbox instead of a removed corner
  • Measure the door’s backset and allow 2mm extra if the faceplate remains attached during measurement
  • Verify the required backset size from available options before ordering
  • Check that the PZ centres match the existing lock (92mm)
  • Confirm spindle size as 8mm single spindle

Common Ordering Mistakes

  • Ordering a new style gearbox for an old style GU lock or vice versa due to incompatible designs
  • Selecting the incorrect backset size without accounting for the 2mm measurement allowance with faceplate attached
  • Confusing latch reversal with lock handing—latch can be reversed by twisting, but hand of door should be confirmed separately
  • Overlooking the PZ centres measurement, resulting in incompatibility with handles and cylinders

Operation: Lift lever

Latch reversal: Twist latch into desired position.

To lock the door

1. Lift the handle upwards to engage the locking points.

2. Lock the locking points and main deadbolt (if present) by turning the key.

To unlock the door
